Netstorage & iFolder - more details

A Colleague's Comments:

I read your reply about netstorage, and I would like to ask a couple of questions.  We are a totally windows active directory environment.  I have recently purchased a NAS with a terabyte of storage, in preparation for student network folders.  It would be beneficial to give students and faculty access to their network folders off campus and love this netstorage idea.  You mentioned that it can be used in a windows environment.  I cannot find any information concerning windows.

My Comments:

The Netstorage will only run on a Netware server. However, you use the Novell's Identity Manager to synch with Active Directory. That way you maintain your users in Active Directory, synch them with Identity Manager to NDS and the iFolder/Netstorage server uses the NDS information for their logins.  I know that the Netstorage server can point at some of the NAS devices, but I have not tested the one you have so I can not say if it will point to yours.

If you just use the iFolder without Netstorage, then you can use a Netware, Linux or Windows server. In any case you can integrate them with your Windows Active Directory. Plus, once you are using the Identity Manager to synch with NDS you can use other products, such as GroupWise, (which now comes with a secure instant messenger that you can use internally and wonderful web access components, plus a desktop client) or Zenworks for little or no extra.

The minimum cost for an annual Novell subscription is $1000. They price per student at $2.00 per student and you can select three products for that $2.00. Once you make your product selections you can use it on as many servers and clients as you wish.

You can download all of this and try it for free. If you like it, then you can pay. www.novell.com

I hope this helps.
