Religion & Teacher Web Pages
A Colleague's Question:
Can a teacher put religious items on their web page?
My Comments:
This question came up at a seminar I attended. The presenter was a school law attorney. If this is a personal teacher web page they can do what they wish, with in the limits of your AUP. However, if they have classroom information or any other school related items on the page they must follow the separation of church and state rules.
The key here is how someone gets to the page and how it is defined. The attorney recommended that if you wished to allow teacher personal pages that you establish a separate web site for that purpose and only link to it from the school site.
So is it a personal web page or a school teacher web page?
Good luck.

PS - A disclaimer from the school about the content on the page would be a plus. Many districts can use the same disclaimer they have on teacher e-mails.
